R House
This house's challenge was creating interior spaces with a consistent exterior envelope. R House provides an additional hurdle as the KJHP Design Group accepted it during its finishing stage.
The house's exterior contains precast blocks reflecting the family's symbol. During the turn of the millennium, these blocks gained popularity in the Philippines as accents on gates and homes. The house has columns has dark natural adobe claddings, one of the prominent features.
The interior spaces of the building have the same attention to detail as the exterior—wooden elements o create contrast and atmosphere in various areas. For example, an accent wall has been included on the porch to make sense of entry, while the family room has been enveloped in wood to provide a warm and inviting space for families to gather and converse. The bedrooms also exhibit wood elements as focal points of each room; the adobe stone is a timeless material in appearance and strength.
The showcase of the house is also visible during the night. It highlights features of the house using strategic lighting showing its textures, form, and landscaping through the play of light.
The resulting design is an ensemble of forms and textures application done sensibly, creating a unique character to the house.
