Balancing a Cube

Residential

CK House

Aside from function, aesthetics, and experience, KHJP Design Group has always included experience, traditions, and beliefs in its rule book in planning spaces. From construction to the decoration of the last nook, we believe that these customs will bring beneficial energy and luck inside homes. This house was built on those principles, for a young family that, despite modernized thinking, still respects century-old cosmic beliefs.

CK House is composed of two stacked cubic forms with dimensions that follow good Chinese numerology. Additional and subtractive form changes are applied to introduce dynamic and express internal functions. The upper floor volume is projected to shade excess sunlight entering the ground-level spaces. Textures are employed to produce visual interest and balance.

The interior organization is planned meticulously following strict orientation rules from its doors, and spatial connections, down to its bed headers. Physical elements are also considered to produce a secured and sensible spatial quality.

Asian Design Elements that were used inside the house include bordered doorways, symbolic patterns, wide eaves, and natural stone walls.

This project is a display of balance between forms, traditions, and elements.
