The Long House
Residential
PA House
Built on two plots intersected by an open space, it is a home for a family deciding to settle on a quieter life in the province.
PA House uses a long building form to exploit an elongated site. One way to add interest to a building is by incorporating split levels, which create a sense of movement and engagement for users inside and outside the building. As you enter the building, you see a grand receiving hall with a three-meter-high natural solid wood door. A reflective black glass column is at the center of the hall. The ground floor has a spacious and well-ventilated feel, with natural air circulation.
The multi-faceted rectangular envelope holds the warm and minimal interiors best seen in its use of materials and overall design—wood in creating visual compositions used in accent walls and shelving.
On the exterior, a site-length veranda serves as a viewing platform on the landscape area, the same connection repeated on the second floor on a hallway that imitates the outdoor connection.
Adhering to KJHP Design Group's goal, the house creates a balanced and experiential living inside and outside. It responds to the signals given by the three-lot property to make connections visible on a provincial setup welcoming cool breezes and a generous.
